Language: English
Location: Building F, stairs #3, top floor, across the stairs, Physicist Student Laboratory F32L2
Responsible: Dávid Szaller
Lab Tutors: Dávid Szaller, Attila Barócsi, Csaba Holló, Sebastian Werner Schmid, Barnabás Perényi, Máté Téglás
Attendance Requirements:
- Participation in all three measurement exercises is mandatory. Each exercise consists of two sessions, 4 hours each.
- If you have a certified absence, you may arrange for a replacement measurement (one session in total during the semester) at a time agreed upon with the corresponding lab leader.
- Measurements are conducted in pairs. Please indicate your preferred pairs for the measurements in the provided Excel file by 9th September.
- Mandatory: Read and understand the handout on lab safety (to be uploaded) before attending the first lab session.
Measurement descriptions (to be uploaded)
- Instrument manuals
- Corresponding sections of the Serway Physics book (optional, for additional knowledge)
- T1: Monday 8:30-12:00
- T2: Monday 12:15-15:45
T3: Monday 16:00-19:30
A lab tutor will be present continuously during these times. Breaks are not scheduled, but you may take a break and leave the lab as needed during measurements.
Experiments 1-3:
- Entrance test (25 points) at the start of the first session.
- Lab notes (35 points total), submitted at the end of each session.
- Lab report (40 points), pdf document in a short article style summarizing the results of the measurement, to be submitted within one week from the start of the second session, by Sunday midnight
Total Points:
- 300 points
Grade Scale:
- <40%: Fail (1)
- 40%-55%: Pass (2)
- 55%-70%: Satisfactory (3)
- 70%-85%: Good (4)
- 85%-100%: Excellent (5)
Note: The failure criterion applies to the overall score, not to individual components (entrance tests, lab notes, or reports). All measurements must be completed, but a low score in one area will only lower the aggregate grade without requiring a replacement measurement.
- Entrance Tests: Must be completed in the class, and submitted online via mobile or computer within 10 minutes of the session start time. Late arrivals will have less or no time, leading to a potential loss of points. Tests completed outside the classroom will receive zero points.
- Lab Notes: Submit online at the end of each session.
- Lab Reports: Must be submitted within one week from the start of the second session, by Sunday midnight. A one-time, one-week extension is allowed without penalty. Any further delay results in a 10-point deduction per week, until the score for the lab report reaches zero.
Discussions: During the measurements, lab tutors may ask questions regarding the theoretical background, the experimental procedure, and the data analysis of the experiment. Based on the quality of your cooperation and responses, the test and lab notes scores may be adjusted (increased or decreased). Tutors may also ask additional questions after reviewing your submitted report, and the quality of your answers can influence the final grade of the report.
Tutors should correct the lab reports within one week from the submission deadline, with a single possibility for an extra week delay. Please complain, if this is not satisfied.
In case of plagiarism, the tutors give zero score for the entire measurement (entrance test, lab notes, lab reports). Repeated plagiarism will result in disqualification from the course.
If you use AI to refine your report's language or grammar, you must include the full chat history with the LLM as an appendix. Using AI to generate report content is strictly prohibited.
